Meditation is Limited

Posted on 13 June 2023

When I read the literature or listen to what experts say on the question of metaphysical philosophy, esoteric psychology, psychic development or following a spiritual path in life, I am somewhat disconcerted by the number of times that the experts and advocates cite meditation, without reservation, as the be-all-and-end-all of the universe.

But what I have to declare is that meditation is only a minute part of the entire picture. Meditation, of course, can be useful at an elementary level but it is like saying that one’s arm is the entire body or one’s sun sign in astrology tells the complete story. What is true is that meditation alone cannot crack the nut.

Self-meditation or group-meditation will be great for relaxing the mind and the body but it will not solve psychological dilemmas because it is based on cognitive-behavioural practice which thinks only in terms of symptoms and not causes. At best, the meditative approach will provide only a coping strategy, a temporary respite or even a feel-good factor but it will not ultimately solve the equation and it may indeed merely be a product of wishful thinking on the part of the meditator.

Meditation may help to contact the parallel universe but spiritual enlightenment will only come about when the client addresses those dilemmas which are held steadfastly within his/her psyche. The client’s psychic distress may be yearning to be released but meditation alone cannot successfully access such deep-seated distress because the mind will not unleash its stress-trauma unaided. We are all, of course, herding animals and so the mind expects some help in relinquishing embarrassing secrets, heart-felt anguish and interminable suffering. This path is the only true path to spiritual enlightenment. And, unfortunately, there is no quick-fix route and it is, sadly for humankind, unrealistic to suppose otherwise. And the individual who is on a spiritual quest may be misled into thinking that the shadow is the substance.

Cognitive-behavioural practices, such as mediation, can also be problematic in that the client receives the impression that he/she is solving life’s challenges or emotive malaise and yet the practice of treating symptoms fails utterly to address the root cause of his/her distress. Analysis and resolution of the originating cause is, consequently, the only practice which will turn the tables in the right direction for self-healing.

Analytical hypnotherapy is a root-cause analysis and resolution approach which will hit the button by taking the shortest possible route to the unconscious mind wherein lies the client’s malaise coupled with the means of resolving such disturbance. Analytical hypnotherapy will, therefore, provide the means of mind-relaxation – akin to meditation – which will be imperative for accessing the client’s underlying distresses – perhaps held out of conscious awareness – and then empowering the client to imaginatively and to logically resolve his/her own suffering at its source. This factor holds true for both minor ailments as well as the effects of devastating childhood abuse.

But beware of therapeutic imposters. A number of hypnotherapy and/or psychotherapy practitioners claim to be able to enable the client to address the root cause of his/her dilemma but few actually possess the appropriate qualifications. The analytical hypnotherapy practitioner will have taken the arduous path to self-enlightenment and will, consequently, be supremely qualified to show others the way and to help those who are willing to make the journey. The path is not an easy one, however, because it requires the client to be single-minded, dedicated and resilient in exploring his/her own psychic stress-trauma in order to reap the reward of psychic harmony, release from anguish and spiritual serenity.

If life has challenged you excessively and you wish to attain spiritual enlightenment, then know that there can be a light at the end of the tunnel if you wish to overcome your distress with earnestness and determination. If you have what it takes to overcome your psychic challenges in life, then please visit the “Find a Practitioner” page on the JMHT website (www.jmhypnotraining.co.uk) in order to discover the key to unlocking and to resolving your personal issues with the assistance of a competent professional.
