Analytical hypnotherapy misunderstood

Posted on 6 September 2024

Myths and conceptions

There are many – hopelessly inaccurate – myths and misconceptions about what Analytical Hypnotherapy (hypno-psychotherapy) actually is. And the average person has a thoroughly misguided idea of what psychotherapy is in general terms. All these imaginary notions are hugely false and are often detrimental to the image of the true and dedicated professional. And, furthermore, these misconceptions are certainly not helpful to the client.

Any mention of hypnotherapy or hypno-psychotherapy usually invokes images of a swinging watch, a mesmerizingly bright light and the client being transfixed by the therapist’s powerful gaze. Some people believe that the client comes under the power and control of the practitioner and that the spell can never be broken. Nothing could be further from the truth. But popular belief can often be a mighty force which cannot easily be dispelled.

The truth of the matter is that the client is in complete control of his/her own thoughts and is simply invited to explore his/her own mind in a state of relaxation with the practitioner gently overseeing the process but in no way interfering.

Another misconception about hypnotherapy is that the client loses consciousness and enters a zombie-like state. Not true!

Or that the client cannot remember anything which he/she says because his/her mind has been altered. Not true!

Or that the client does not know what he/she is saying. Again not true!

Or that the practitioner tells the client how to run his/her life and what decisions to take about his/her future. Certainly not true!

Or that the practitioner tells the client exactly what is wrong with him/her in the hope that he/she will pull himself/herself together. Utterly untrue!

Once a rumour spreads, of course, it is difficult to get it to budge. But perhaps these misconceptions are a safety-net for the individual who chooses to believe them and does not want to investigate his/her own truth.

For instance . . .

Is there something of which you are ashamed and thus do not want to reveal to another living soul?

Do you feel that you would not want to discuss your childhood or your relationship with an intimate partner with anyone else because you feel guilty about being the one to blame in the circumstances?

Are you running away from facing the reality of your unhappy life and hoping that your troubles will somehow vanish into thin air?

Do you make too many excuses for someone else who is seriously taking advantage of you?

Would you prefer to live in a pretence fantasy world rather than to face reality in the raw?

The truth of the matter

The truth of the matter is that Analytical Hypnotherapy is an empowering and life-changing experience from which you will emerge as your true self without your debilitating emotional baggage, haunting demons, decades of crippling suffering and countless agonising hang-ups.

As a client you will benefit from Analytical Hypnotherapy in a myriad of ways – mainly concerned with fulfilling your true potential and gaining unshakable psychological freedom in an effortless and natural manner. Hypno-psychotherapy allows you to create a safe, sanctuary-type environment for yourself in which you can gently empower yourself to make your own choices and to understand your psyche at a hitherto unimaginable level. And the therapeutic practitioner is merely a kindly presence during this enlightening process which you yourself orchestrate so that you can metamorphose into a new life.

Who could ever resist such a gift from the universe? And it is within your power to grasp.
